At the Y, we understand the importance of affordable and accessible childcare. That is why in the last school year, 25 percent of families in our care received either a subsidy or scholarship. The Y is committed to offering families support through various financial aid options to help ease the burden of childcare expenses. This blog overviews our updated scholarship income scale, DSHS options, and the ARPA grant for Lakewood residents.
Revised Income Scale for Scholarship
We’re thrilled to announce that we recently updated our USDA child income guidelines. With this change, we hope to meet the growing need for affordable childcare and ensure that more families can utilize our Y Scholarships.
Household Size and Income
Y Scholarships rely upon a sliding scale based on household size and income. As a result, the quantity of support supplied differs based on these criteria. We recognize that each family's circumstances are unique, and we consider mitigating circumstances while considering applications. Supporting paperwork can be submitted to assist us in determining your family's particular needs.
Reapplication Encouraged
Whether you are currently receiving a scholarship or have applied previously, we highly encourage you to reapply to see if you are eligible for extra aid. Because we are committed to assisting families, we regularly analyze and alter our financial assistance options to ensure that we fulfill the requirements and needs of as many families as possible. If you reapply, you will be able to take advantage of any updated qualifying requirements or funding possibilities.
Special Assistance for Lakewood Residents
We are delighted to highlight additional financial assistance options that are available to Lakewood residents. If you live in Lakewood, we invite you to apply immediately to learn about the additional support you may be qualified for. Thanks to these options, we are happy to extend our assistance and make childcare more affordable for the Lakewood community.
At the YMCA, we believe no family should be denied access to childcare due to financial constraints. With our various financial aid options, including DSHS subsidies, Y Scholarships, and local grant options for Lakewood families. We want our community to stay informed of the resources available for them to bridge the gap in care.
We encourage both returning and new families to apply for our Y Scholarships and reach out to the childcare team at childcare@ymcapkc.org.
