The YMCA has crafted an ultimate guide for families to get ready for school this fall! We have crafted a detailed list of school district resources and community events that are within Pierce and Kitsap counties that our communities can utilize this summer to get ready for school!
Sumner and Bonney Lake
Free Summer Lunches
Sumner/Bonney Lake School District is currently offering free hot lunch for all children 18 years and younger.
When: Monday-Thursday through August 15
Time: 11:30am to 12:30 pm

For more information, including details on the new SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) program that provides qualifies students with $120 to purchase groceries while school is out this summer, please visit the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Website.
Back-to-School Grab and Go Resource Fair Events
Free backpacks and supplies will be available for students in need at the following events in August:
- Thursday, August 15, 12-2pm, Daffodil Valley Elementary, 1509 Valley Ave., Sumner
- Tuesday, August 20, 12-2pm, Liberty Ridge Elementary, 12202 209th Ave Ct E., Bonney Lake
- Thursday, August 22, 3-6pm, Sumner-Bonney Lake Family Resource Center, 1508 Willow St., Sumner
Lakewood
Free Dental Outreach Event at Lakewood Family YMCA
In partnership with Lindquist Dental Group, MultiCare, and the YMCA, youth in the Lakewood community can receive free dental hygienic supplies as well as a cleaning and fluoride. Clinics are sponsored by the Pierce County Local Impact Network.
When: August 26
Location: Lakewood Family YMCA
Time: 9am-2pm
Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children is providing free children's preventative dental services at the Lakewood YMCA! Services include:
- Visual screenings (make sure teeth and tissues are healthy)
- Fluoride varnish (a topical fluoride that helps prevent tooth decay)
- Dental sealants (a thin protective coating put on molars that protect teeth from cavity-causing bacteria)
Please complete and return the consent form ahead of time to allow your child to receive services without a parent/guardian present, or plan to attend with your child. Walk-ins are welcome but feel free to schedule an appointment!
Tacoma
Tacoma Public Schools | Back to School Block Party
FREE FOR STUDENTS: school supplies, hygiene products, haircuts, food, activities, music, community partners, crafts, performances, and more!

Bremerton
Back to School Bash
This community event aims to provide kids with backpacks, supplies, and even haircuts. Hosted at the Marvin Williams Recreation Center, this is free to the public.
When: August 10
